“What the fuck were you thinking?” Ace screamed, coming around the kitchen table to grab Sandi Lee by the shoulders. He slapped her with an open palm for the second time. “You stupid bitch.” He grabbed her purse and emptied it onto the table. “Nothing! No money, No dope. Nada. This is gonna cause a lot of problems. You got a lot of nerve fucking around out there when you were supposed to be working. The cops coulda caught you . . . and you were driving my new Benz, too. They coulda taken my car, you know . . . and then both of us would be in jail.”

“But I got away,” Sandi Lee meekly offered.

“For now! And without the shit!”

Sandi Lee gritted her teeth, afraid to say anything.

“There are other people involved, you know? And they don’t wanna hear nothing about why you tossed their goods.” He drummed his fingers on the counter, then made a fist. “And there were probably a thousand witnesses on Shore Way who can ID my car now.” He punched her in the side and glared hard at her, as if daring her to make a sound.

Sandi Lee doubled over and stumbled back, one hand outstretched as if to dodge another blow. “I’m sorry. I was just . . .”

“Just playing the fool,” Ace finished. “Think I don’t know DuPree Jones is hot to fuck you? Givin’ you a “gift”. Shit. He just wants to get in your panties, and for all I know he’s already been there.”

Holding onto her side, Sandi Lee frowned. “That’s not true. I don’t care nothin’ about DuPree. I was just playing him. Look, Ace, I’m sorry about the car and the stash. Somehow, I’ll make it right.”

“Damn straight you will,” Ace shouted, towering over Sandi Lee. “I oughta kill you. I could snap your skinny neck with one hand if I wanted to and be done with you for good. But I won’t. Oh, no. You’re gonna get your ass out there and bring back enough money to fix my car and pay for everything you tossed in that field. I can’t believe you did that!” He pushed her hard toward the door, opened it and shoved her onto the sidewalk in front of the condo. “Out! Get the hell outta here.”

He threw her purse at her, and the keys to her ’81 Honda flew out when her bag landed on the lawn.

“Where am I gonna get that kind of cash?” Sandi Lee whimpered, stunned that Ace was doing this to her, though she knew the car repairs were the least of his worries. The missing cocaine was going to cause real trouble.

“I don’t care how you get the dough. Sell some pussy. Tap your rich Cuban girlfriend. Didn’t you say her fiancé is rolling in cash? Do anything you want, bitch, but don’t show your face around here again until you’ve got the cash to clean up this mess. You wanted to play, baby? Okay, then, let’s play.
